Presentation Title:

Unlocking the Power of Parked EVs: Lessons from Building a Vehicle-to-Grid Testbed

Abstract:

Electric vehicles (EVs) are widely recognized as clean modes of transportation, yet when parked, they also represent a flexible source of stored energy that can support the electricity grid. This concept, known as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), enables EVs not only to draw power from the grid but also to supply power back when needed. However, realizing V2G in everyday practice requires coordinated progress in charging technology, communication standards, and business models that benefit both EV owners and service providers. This keynote presents the development of a V2G testbed to explore how EVs can help reduce peak demand, enhance grid stability, and participate in energy markets. The speaker will highlight key challenges observed during the deployment, such as ensuring smooth interoperability among different hardware and software systems, charging management system and identifying operational scenarios where V2G provides clear economic and environmental value.
